WRITE FOR URBANGIRLZ

Thank you for your interest in writing for UrbanGirlz Magazine, a magazine designed
to celebrate, educate and inspire girls and teens of color.   UrbanGirlz is
always in search of individuals who have a heart to empower urban youth.

If you feel a call to impact young people, please review and follow the following
writer's guidelines, and be sure to pick up our latest issue.

OUR MISSION
To educate, encourage and inspire girls and teens of color 10 and up through
engaging articles and online content.

STYLE
The UrbanGirlz editorial style is fun, fresh and most of all REAL!  We appreciate
well-developed stories, poems and reviews that uplift urban youth.  We want our
girls to feel they are talking to their home girl.  In other words, make it personable
and relateable.

LENGTH
Our standard article length is 1,000 words but no longer than 4,000 words.  Columns
and inspirational spotlights can be 100 to 500 words.

REQUIREMENTS
To write for UrbanGirlz print magazine or to be an online contributor, you must have
a strong desire to empower urban youth.  You must also have a strong journalism or
writing education or experience.

SUBMISSION
Choose your best story idea or column an submit a sample along with a one-page
query letter detailing your expertise, story idea, title and subtitle (if applicable), story
length (word count) and why UrbanGirlz Magazine is a good fit for you.

All submissions are due two months prior to publication.  UrbanGirlz reserves the
right to edit all submissionis to fit style and available space.  Please allow two to four
weeks for review.   If UrbanGirlz Magazine selects your article, you will be notified
via email with next steps.

If you are not selected for an upcoming issue, your article will be considered for
subsequent placement in another issue or as an online article.

UrbanGirlz Magazine does not compensate for articles, but we do provide a platform
for you to advertise your expertise.
